How to convert AVIF to JPG

    1. Choose your AVIF files, drop them on the page, or paste an image from your clipboard.
    2. Check that JPG is selected under “Convert to”. Adjust the quality if you want a smaller or larger file.
    3. The conversion starts straight away. It takes a second or two per image, on your own device.
    4. Click Download to save the JPG. With several images, download them all as one zip.

    Why convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF is the newest web image format, based on the AV1 video codec. Its files are tiny, so more and more sites serve it, and some phones now take photos in it. But many photo editors, office apps, social networks and older operating systems can't open AVIF yet.

Converting to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere. Expect it to be larger than the AVIF: AVIF is simply the more efficient format.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is an AVIF file?

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is an image format from the Alliance for Open Media. It supports transparency and HDR and compresses better than JPG and WebP.

Why can't I open AVIF files on my computer?

Support depends on your system and apps. Current browsers show AVIF, but many editors and older versions of Windows and macOS don't. Converting to JPG avoids the problem.

Is this AVIF to JPG converter free?

Yes. You can convert 3 images a day for free, up to 4 megapixels each, with no watermark. Pro removes the daily limit, keeps images up to 16 MP and converts up to 50 files at once with a zip download.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. The converter runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. Your images are never sent to a server, so it's safe for personal and confidential photos.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes, on Pro: add up to 50 images and download them one by one or all together as a zip. Free accounts convert one image at a time.

    Which formats can I convert?

You can open HEIC/HEIF, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP files and save them as JPG, PNG or WebP. AVIF output is available on Pro. Safari can't save WebP, so the WebP option is off there.
